When Ira shared her idea with me for this new GUESS Fashion shoot I was excited to say the least… Pirates… hmmmn where do we begin I thought? Location… Popeye Village… perfect!
On the day of the shoot we arrived at around 7.00am, the weather was perfect – overcast and stormy, which sadly was not to last long. In fact it lasted right up until I fired off the first shot of the day, then out came the glorious Maltese sunshine… typical. Whilst Ira was getting her hair and make-up done I decided to have a scout around for props, we found a perfectly aged metal wall that was used on the film ‘Troy’ – one problem – how to get it down to the sea where we were going to shoot? Quite a few huffs and puffs later we were ready to roll – and then I have the cheek to ask myself how come my back gives me so many problems, the guy that helped me carry the wall was more than repaid by being asked to hold the wall up during the mermaid shoot – (I think he is still grinning now). It was a long hard shoot and to be honest I could have carried on shooting all night, but come 9pm we were all well and truly shattered. I was and still am really pleased with the outcome of this shoot, I had deliberately changed my lighting style to tie in with the pirate theme – much darker and moodier – than my normal work, and all but the mermaid shot came out exactly as I had envisaged. The dreadful (sic) sun spoilt my plan for the mood on that one depite shooting it under-exposed, stlll you cant win them all I GUESS… excuse the pun… uw aaaarggh!

I would like to personally thank the management of Popeye Village in Mellieha for their hospitality, excellent assistance and permission to shoot. Make-up by Diane Nickolic @ Glow, Hair by Ian Miller @ Top Quality Hair and styling by Drew Warhurst for GUESS. Also thanks to Howard at Jagged House for his assistance and constant input during the shoot and for saving my forehead after I had banged it repeatedly on the timber beams and of course Ira Losco.
